Do you know your PBs from your DQs, UQTs from your LQTs, long course to short course conversions? confused? It’s not surprising. For parents new to swimming there is a lot to take in when our youngsters start to compete, and believe us when we say its still confusing for us seasoned vetarans at times!
But as with everything, its easy when you know how!
So to help parents get to grip with the fundamentals of competitive swimming, we have arranged a parent information session, which will be held on Sunday 3 July 2016, 3pm to 4pm, in the first floor Fitness Studio (Spinning room).
The session is open to parents of swimmers in SD3 – B3.
Space is limited so we would appreciate it if parents could let us know if they are planning to attend.
This is an ideal opportunity to find our what competitive swimming is all about, how to prepare, what to take and most importantly what to expect on the day. So we would encourage as many parents as possible to attend.
If anyone has any questions about the event, please speak to Kelvin McArdle, otherwise we look forward to seeing you there.
A reminder that there is another long course training session this Saturday (25 June) for normal monthly HUB swimmers.
The organisers have requested confirmation of expected numbers of swimmers for the session, therefore if you are planning on attending, please could you let either Lorraine or Gary know asap.
The final HUB session of the season is still planned for Stanhope Open air pool on the 2nd July – again this is for the normal hub swimmers.
Parents are welcome to come along and bring a BBQ to cook our hard working swimmers a well-deserved bacon or sausage sandwich for the end of the session!
We are pleased to confirm that the latest batch of Personalised Swim Hats have finally arrived!
Please could anyone who has ordered a hat, visit our Swim Shop tonight to collect, or alternatively see Lianne Pye next week.
We would like to announce the official launch of our new Friday night Swim Shop, which will open for business on Friday 17 June 2016.
The Shop will be located in the spectator gallery on Friday nights between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
Members will be able to:
The shop will be manned by a team of volunteers, and we are always on the look out for anyone who would like to get involved.
If you have an hour to spare once every month or so and would like to help, we would love to hear from you!
Please speak to Lianne or any of our shop volunteers to sign up!
Hopefully, we will be looking to expand things a little for the new season, so if you have any ideas, or if there is anything which you would like to be able to purchase from the club then let us know.
Funds raised go directly towards providing competition support for our swimmers; from our little Junior League swimmers through to our performance swimmers!
We hope that its a welcome addition to the club and look forward to seeing you there.

Well it was another fantastic round of swimming from our youngsters; with our dream team finishing in 5th position overall with a total point score of 150, just 3 points behind Tynemouth who took 4th place.
A fabulous achievement for their division one debut year.
Gateshead and Whickham came out on top as 2016 division one winners ahead of rivals Stockton, in a tight run race between the two ( only one point in it at the half way point!)
This year’s coveted costume award went to Tynemouth in their blue and gold splendour ( they did look great we have to admit!) but our black and white army did themselves proud, and looked ‘CHESS tacular’ as they brought up the rear of the parade!
Which leads us onto the thankyous… events like this don’t just happen, and there has been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to prepare the swimmers, make costumes and organise things on the day.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who helped make the costumes, another big thank you to Fiona and Emily for all their help organising the children both on and off poolside, our officials for volunteering their services, and last but not least, the coaches for all their efforts preparing, training and managing the team!
So we may not have brought home the trophies this year; but we are immensely proud of our youngsters, who showed true team spirit throughout the competition and delivered their absolute best in the pool, which is what it’s all about!
So one final well done to all who have taken part in this year’s competition, and guess what we get to do it all again next year!
WELL DONE JUNIOR LEAGUE TEAM 2016!
