Swim Safe Returns to South Shields

a swim safe session

The exciting outdoor swimming and water safety initiative, Swim Safe, is returning once again to South Shields Sandhaven beach.

The Swim Safe project is aimed at educating children aged between 7 and 14, and their parents, about the challenges and dangers which are present in an open water environment, that are not found in an indoor swimming pool.

The 40-minute sessions are practical, interactive, educational, fun and free, and include land-based safety lessons with a lifeguard, and in-water tuition with an ASA qualified swimming teacher.

The first set of Swim Safe 2016 dates and UK locations have been announced.

Visit the Swim Safe website for full details and to register to take part in one of this year’s sessions.

Royal Pool Visit

Before you all get too excited, sadly the queen isn’t visiting Chester-le-Street pool any time soon!

However, not too far away in Consett, they are receiving a Royal visit to officially open their new pool next Wednesday (2 March 2016).

To mark the occasion, the pool are hosting a demonstration of competitive swimming, and Consett Academy have kindly agreed to allow any of their pupils who swim competitively, time off school to participate in the event.

If anyone attends the Academy and would like to be included, please could you contact Paul Woodley at Derwentside ASC as soon as possible to arrange.

Lost & Found! – Leftover Kit

We have conducted a recent clear out of our kit storage cupboard ( a big thank you to those parents who volunteered to help do this!) and have found a number of  unclaimed items of kit, including fins, hand paddles & water bottles etc.

All unclaimed kit has been placed in black bags next to the racks in the cupboard. Please could we ask that if any swimmers are missing items of kit, that they check these to see if any items can be reunited with their owners.

In particular, we have a number of unclaimed water bottles, if these remain unclaimed by Sunday 6 March, they will be disposed of, so we would be greatly appreciate if swimmers could check these as soon as possible.

Please note that all kick bags have now been placed tidily on the racks in the cupboard, therefore please could we ask that swimmers help to keep this area tidy, by replacing their kick bags on the appropriate racks at the end of training (no throwing it in and hoping for the best… the cleaning fairies are well and truly on strike!)

As always we thank you for your help and support with this.

New Turnstiles
