If you were unable to amend your standing order for March, please could you see Ruth Moralee to arrange payment of any outstanding amount.

Similarly, if anyone is unsure of what their correct monthly payment should be, or has any other questions regarding their monthly training fees, please contact Ruth as soon as possible.

As always your support and co-operation with this is greatly appreciated.

Small Pool Soft Play – Sunday 17 April 2016

????????????????????????????????????

Small Pool Soft Play

We are pleased to announce that we have arranged a ‘Spring treat’ for our small pool swimmers on Sunday 17 April 2016.

We have booked the soft play centre at the pool between 3pm & 5pm for our little ones to enjoy.

Although, we will be operating the session as a ‘drop in’, please could we ask  that parents try to fit in with the following times where possible, so that we don’t exceed maximum numbers.

Tadpoles      from 3:30pm

Frogs            from   4:00pm

Dolphins     from   3:00pm

If anyone has any questions regarding this, please see Lianne Pye, otherwise we look forward to seeing you all there!

Appointment of New Committee

Further to the announcement at our recent AGM, we would like to formally welcome our new Management Committee to post.

Terry Mason (AKA Alex’s dad!) has taken over as Club Chair, and will be responsible for overseeing decisions and ensuring efficient running of the club.

Lianne Pye ( Sweet shop lady for those of you who don’t know her) has taken on the role of Club Secretary, responsible for day to day issues and general communication.

Finally, Ruth Moralee has ( with a bit of grovelling persuasion!) agreed to formally take up the role of Club Treasurer once again.

A big thank you to our new Management Committee for taking up the roles, to all our existing post holders for their continued hard work, to all our coaches & volunteers for the time and effort devoted to the club and finally to all those who attended last week’s AGM.

For those who weren’t able to make it, a summary of our Annual Club Review and Coaches’ Performance Report will be published in the next few weeks, highlighting our key achievements from 2015 and outlining our plans/objectives for the coming year.

Committee Restructure

The AGM saw the announcement of the club’s plans to restructure the way in which it is managed. Chester-le-Street ASC will no longer have a general committee, but will with immediate effect be comprised of four sub committee groups, each responsible for a key area.

The Management Committee will comprise of :

  • Chair
  • Club Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Lead Coach
  • Membership Secretary

With general committee members and volunteers sitting within sub groups headed up by each Club Officer.

Full details of the new structure and roles/responsibilities will be published asap once finalised.

Volunteers

However, we are always on the look out for any volunteers who can spare a little time to help, this could be a regular commitment, or for one off events, either way we’d love to hear from you.

In particular we are looking for support with :

  • Website Management & Communications
  • Marketing/PR
  • Swim 21 Co-ordinator
  • Fundraising

If you do feel you could offer some help, then please speak to one of our committee members or email us at :

Orders for Personalised Hats

We are once again taking orders for our personalised club hats. Each hat costs £8.50 and can be printed up with swimmer’s name, initials or even nickname!

A great way to make sure the hats aren’t lost poolside!

We need a minimum order of 25 hats before we can submit for printing, therefore please bear this in mind when placing your order, as it may be a few weeks before it arrives.

If you would like to place an order, please see either Lianne Pye or Fiona Heppell by 31 March 2016.

Junior League First Round – Sunday 13 March 2016

A reminder for all our Junior League Team members regarding the arrangements for Sunday.

Arrival & Venue

General

Please could all swimmers arrive at Louisa Centre Stanley at 2.30pm prompt.

For those parents who haven’t been to this pool before, there is no dedicated parking at the venue, however there is a free town centre car park adjacent to the pool.

Please be aware that there are other Junior League divisional competitions taking place at the pool the same day, so parking may initially be a bit restricted. The events are scheduled back to back, so as the earlier event finishes, our round will follow on.

The organisers will have things planned like a military operation, so that spectators from the earlier event will leave via a different exit to that which we will enter by – but just be prepared that things may be a little congested whilst we await our ” entry slot”.

Swimmers

Please could swimmers make their way to the changing village (to the left of the reception) on arrival, our team helpers & coaches will be hovering around to direct any children who may not be familiar with the pool or the event.

We will also “buddy up” any new team members to help with any nerves.

What to bring

Please could parents ensure that the swimmers bring the following:

2 towels

Swimming costumes or jammers (obviously a must!)

Pool shoes or flip flops to wear poolside

Junior League T Shirt

Water bottle & small snack to munch on

All swimmers will be provided with a Junior League Team hat poolside by the coaches.

Start Time

The warm up is scheduled to start at 2.45pm with event due to start at 3.20pm, and will last no more than approx 2 hours.

So all that’s left to say is that we look forward to seeing our team in action and hearing some roaring support from the gallery!

GOOD LUCK!

Interclub Training – Session Two

Tynemouth Metafit 2 Tynemouth MetafitInter-Club Training Session Two

After  recently attending a training session hosted by Tynemouth ASC, we returned the favour on Sunday afternoon. Tynemouth swimmers joined our A & B squad swimmers in the pool, before being put through their paces at one of Bunny’s signature Metafit sessions.

Not sure what you think, but I don’t think we worked them hard enough, too many smiles and not enough red faces for my liking!

Sounds like the afternoon was a success, and we thank all those who dragged themselves away from their Mother’s Day celebrations to take part in the session.

N & D Results Weekend 1

N & D Results Weekend 2

 Day One

The second weekend of the championships continued the run of success for CLS; particularly for our younger swimmers, who collectively qualified for over 20 finals between them. With a total of 25 finalists, 4 Gold,  a silver and a bronze from the day’s events, it was yet another day of strong performances from our N & D qualifiers.

Highlights

Elle Brown kicked off the day’s events taking Gold in the girls 14 years 400m Free in a time of 4:38:88, a fantastic start.

Joseph Fairbairn (12) was the first of our finalists in the Boys 200m Back, finishing in 10th position in a time of 2:48:54, later joined by Luke Pye (14) who finished in 7th position in a new personal best time of 2:36:32. Matthew Hunt (15) & Jamie Keyworth (17) also qualified as finalists finishing in 7th & 10th positions.

Gabby Burdess was the first of our female finalists, finishing in 10th position in the Girls 16 & over 50m breastroke.

Eleven year old Matthew Cairns finished in 6th position in the boys 100m Free in a new personal best time of 1:13:75, with Joseph Fairbairn later coming in at 8th position in the same event in  a time of 1:10:66. The fifteen years age group saw three of our swimmers in the final; Alex Mason, Oliver Wallace and Matthew Hunt, with Alex taking silver, followed by Oliver and Matthew in 4th & 6th positions.

Joseph Fairbairn (12) was the first of our afternoon finalists in the Boys 200m IM, later joined by Daniel Butler (14) & Luke Pye (14), who finished in 4th & 10th positions respectively. Matthew Hunt (15) & Chris Heppell (17) also qualified for the finals in their respective age groups in the same event.

Elle Brown (14) took the third of the day’s medals, finishing yet again in gold medal position in the Girls 100m Fly in a time of 1:08:91, with team mate Rebekah  also qualifying for the 15 years age group.

10 year old Brandon Pye qualified for the boys 50m fly final, finishing in 5th position slightly outside of his new PB time set earlier in the heats. Joseph Fairbairn and Thomas English were also finalists, with Joseph taking bronze medal in a time of 33:43, closely followed by Thomas who finished just behind in 5th position. The event proved to be one of our strongest with our 15 year old boys finishing on top form with Alex Mason taking Gold in a time of 26:84, with Matthew Hunt finishing in 10th position.

The girls likewise produced some strong performances with Taryn Wheat (14), Faye Burns (15) and Gabby Burdess (18) all finalists in the girls 200m Breast event, finishing in 8th position in their respective age groups.

Day 2

The second day  produced a further 16 finalists, with 3 more golds and a silver medal to add to the tally.

Highlights

Elle Brown (14) was the first of our finalists, finishing in 7th position in the girls 200m Back, again joined by team mate Rebekah Heppell (15) who finished in 10th position.

James Davison (14) was our sole finalist in the boys 50m Breast, finishing in 9th position in a time of 38:14.

Hannah Wright (13) finished in 7th position in the Girls 100m Free, with Elle Brown & Taryn Wheat taking top two positions in the 14 years age group in times of 1:01:71 & 1:02:59 respectively. A fantastic result from the girls!

Hannah Wright later finished in 10th position in the girls 200m IM,  with Elle Brown & Taryn Wheat also finalists for the event, finishing in 4th & 8th positions.

Brandon Pye (10)  continued his strong run, finishing in 4th position in the Boys 100m Fly in a new PB time of 1:22:55. Thomas English (12) & Jacob Openshaw (12) finished in 4th & 9th position in their age group final. Alex Mason, Matthew Hunt & Jamie Keyworth were all fly finalists, with Alex taking another Gold in the 15 years age group in a time of 1:01:05.

The day finished on a high with fourteen year old Taryn Wheat adding to the medal tally, taking gold in the 50m fly in a time of 30:93, with team mate Elle Brown just missing out on the medals in 4th position.

So overall despite illness & injuries our swimmers once again did us proud delivering some tremendous personal best performances and numerous top ten positions across all ages. It was particularly good to see our youngest swimmers rising to the occasion at what was for some their very first championships. Definitely something to build upon for the future!

So we would like to wish a big congratulations to all our qualifiers, finalists and medallists for this year’s championships and we’re sure it’s paved the way for yet more great results at the upcoming NER Long Course Championships.
