The Ten Commandments for Swimming Parents

Children compete in sport for many reasons, but the main reason is because it’s FUN!

However, its often all too easy for parents of talented youngsters to get carried away in the midst of their child’s blossoming success.

We think Rose Snyder (US Swimming) has hit the nail right on the head with her list of Ten Commandments for Swimming Parents.

I’m sure we can all relate to at least some of these and something for us all to think about……..

40 years and haven’t changed a bit!

As part of our 40th celebrations, we are hoping to pull together a “history in pictures” of the club and its members since it was established in 1975, but to do so we need your help!

If anyone has any photos, newspaper articles, stories or memorabilia which we could use, please let us know. It’s a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane (and have a chuckle or two!) and we would love anyone who has been involved in the club past or present to get in touch.

Photos etc. can be emailed to the following address or handed to any member of our Management Committee (who can usually be found at the pool on Friday evenings), for inclusion in our 40th celebrations and publication in our online ‘Anniversary Gallery’ which is soon to be launched.

Junior League Final 2015 – Division 2 Winners!

Our Dream Team proved what an unstoppable force they were at the Junior League Final held at Haven Point on Sunday 28 June 2015.

Winning the competition by almost 70 points ahead of nearest rivals Richmond Dales, to secure their place in Division One for next season, they were definitely deserving of their nickname.

Achieving a total of 48 top three places out of 51 events, it showcased what young talent we have, and was a testament to what teamwork can achieve!

All of our young swimmers gave 110% on the day, with some fantastic swims, great team spirit and lots of smiles and excitement, it made for a wonderful event all round.

In the traditional teams parade, we were treated to some wonderful themed costumes from Spongebob to Robin Hood, Superheroes to Soldiers and everything in between! It was lovely to see the youngsters in all their multi-coloured splendour! (although we all had a chuckle watching the Chinese Dragon do a “U turn” poolside after so carefully preparing to set off in the wrong direction  !)

Despite the stiff competition, a winner was announced and this year’s prize was awarded to Richmond Dales, with their Superhero theme.

The day was rounded off with some team photos in the sunshine, (soon to be published in our gallery).

So all that is left to say is a HUGE well done to all 38 of our swimmers who took part in this year’s competition, some of whom for which it was their first experience of competitive swimming, and we look forward to seeing what next year’s competition holds in Division One…..

SGM Update

Our annual meeting was held on Friday 15 May 2015, to deliver a roundup of the previous year’s performance and outline proposals for future developments within the club.

We would like to apologise for the slightly later than published start time, and for any inconvenience that this may have caused any parents or members. However, we were extremely pleased to see that despite this, there was such a strong turnout and appreciate the constructive and positive feedback raised by members.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to considering a number of proposed amendments to our Club constitution, all of which by unanimous agreement, have been submitted for approval to Regional ASA.

A further update will be provided regarding the proposed amendments, as soon as possible.

Full minutes of the meeting and copies of our Annual Financial Report are available on request from the Club Secretary, for anyone who was not able to join us on the night.

As a club, we rely on the help and support of our members and as such, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued assistance, with particular thanks going to our coaching team for their ongoing dedication to our swimmers and all those who volunteer their time and effort (no matter how great or small) to contribute to the running of the club. It is greatly appreciated.

The past year now behind us, we look ahead to the coming year, and hope to see ongoing new and exciting developments within the club.
