Championship Highlights

Day One

Following on from last week’s championships, the ASA Summer Nationals got off to a flying start for Chester-le-Street ASC in the Womens 200m Free event. Thirteen year old Elle Brown produced a new personal best time of 2:14:70 to qualify for the 12/13 year old final in 9th position. After improving this time by more than a second, Elle moved up 2 places to finish in overall 7th position in tonight’s final, in a time of 2:13:24,  a cracking start to her championships.

Team mate Daniel Butler, also started his championships well, narrowly missing his personal best time in the 12/13 years 400m IM to finish in 18th position in a time of 5:19:62, a strong performance in a tough event!

A squad swimmer Gabby Burdess (16) finished in 11th position in the 16/17 years 200m IM in a time of 2:31:29, not quite achieving her personal best, but one of only two qualifiers in her age group hailing from a “North East” club, an achievement in itself!

Our boys’ 400m Free team also delivered a strong performance in the 14/16 years event. The team consisting of Christopher Heppell, Jamie Keyworth, Alex Mason and Oliver Wallace almost matched their qualifying time exactly, to finish in 12th position in a time of 3:49:72.

So overall a great start for our swimmers and   deserving of a big well done!

Tomorrow sees  Elle competing in the women’s 800m Free, and we wish her the best of luck.

Further updates to follow…..

Day Two

Elle Brown took the bronze medal today in the 12/13 years 800m Free, after improving her personal best by a massive 8 seconds, to finish in a time of 9:30:72! A fabulous performance, well deserving of the result. Well done Elle!

This is the club’s first medal of the championships and we hope its not the last….

Good luck to Gabby Burdess and Alex Mason who are competing in the 200m breaststoke and 50m backstroke events tomorrow.

Day Three

And Gold medal in the 50m back goes to………Alex Mason from Chester-le-Street!

After producing an outstanding performance in this morning’s heats, improving his 50m back time by almost 2 seconds (wow!) Alex qualified as fastest competitor in tonight’s 14 years final. After shaving yet more time off, he finished in gold medal position in a time of 29:49, an absolutely fantastic result!

We’re sure there will be celebrations tonight!

As always  HUGE congratulations from us all at the club.

Team mate Gabby Burdess despite being recently injured, competed in the 200m breastroke; finishing in 18th position in the 16/17 years age group in a time of 2:54:65, outside of her personal best, but a gutsy performance nonetheless.

Another impressive day of competition and a big well done to both our swimmers.

Day Four

Day four of the championships saw thirteen year old Elle Brown just miss out on a second bronze medal in the 12/13 years 200m Fly. After improving her personal best by almost 2 seconds, she qualified for the final in third position in a time of 2:28:64, but despite delivering an even stronger performance in the final, taking a further two seconds off her time (!) she sadly lost out on third position to Brompton swimmer Alesha Kelly.

However, it was another fantastic swim from Elle and impressive result for the club.

The championships continue tomorrow as Elle is joined by Gabby Burdess in the 400m IM, along with team mates Alex Mason in the 100m Back and Daniel Butler in the 1500m Free. We’re sure we will have yet more fabulous results to report…….

Day Five

Elle Brown and Gabby Burdess competed in the 400m IM this morning, finishing in 18th and 10th positions respectively in the qualifying  heats, which secures Gabby’s place in tonight’s final.

Team mate Alex is yet to swim in the 100m back, along with 13 year old Daniel Butler who is competing in the 1500m free event later today. A gruelling event and we wish him the best of luck!

Further updates to follow –  good luck boys!

Day 5 Update

Alex Mason qualified  for the 14 years 100m Back final in third place, in yet another personal best time of 1:04:45. After narrowly missing this time in the final, he finished in overall 6th position in a time of 1:04:87. This brings this summer’s championships to a close for Alex with an impressive tally of 6 finals, 7 PBs and a GOLD medal. An absolutely outstanding result and we’re sure its  a sign of fantastic things to come.

Team Mate Gabby Burdess, finished her championships by finishing in 10th position in 16/17 years 400m IM in a time of 5:18:23, still outside of her personal best, but despite recent injury she managed through grit and determination, to improve her qualifying  time by 5 seconds, an admirable performance.

Thirteen year old Daniel Butler, improved his personal best time in the 1500m free event by more than 10 seconds to finish in 6th position in the 12/13 years age group. An impressive result in an extremely tough event – well done Daniel!

Elle Brown finished in 5th position in this morning’s 400m free heats, earning her a position in the 12/13 years final. After matching her personal best time exactly in the heats, it was another fabulous performance. Well done and best of luck for this afternoon’s final!

We would like to say a HUGE well done to all our swimmers who have now completed their championships, and best of luck to our final competitor Elle!

Final Results

The 12/13 years 400m Free final marked the end of this summer’s national championships for Chester-le-Street ASC.

Elle Brown fought hard against her competitors, in a very tight race, but despite a four second heat to final PB, she just missed out on a medal position by less than a second, to finish in 5th position overall. Nonetheless an extremely strong performance and a great end to an outstanding week of swimming!

As the championships draw to a close, I’m sure our swimmers are returning tired but extremely happy and proud of themselves, as they rightly should be!

Its been a long and tiring two weeks of competition for our swimmers, but which I’m sure has been hugely memorable and a wonderful experience for all involved.

For the last time, congratulations to all our 2015 qualifiers!

Another fabulous result for our swimmers!

Final Day

The final day of the championships saw Lauren Graham finish on top form by qualifying for the Women’s 16 years 50m Free final in 9th position. Narrowly missing her PB to qualify in a time of 27:32. After shaving half a second off her time, Lauren moved up 4 places in the final, to finish in 5th position in a time of 26:79. A fantastic result and great end to the Championships.

Team mate Alex Mason, delivered yet another strong performance in the Men’s 50m Free, qualifying for the 13/14 years final in a time of 25:72, in 4th position. After a nailbiting finish, Alex missed bronze medal position by the narrowest of margins, finishing in a time of 25:48, only 0:02 seconds behind bronze medalist Adam Metcalf!

Another fabulous day of swimming and two further fantastic performances from our swimmers, to end what has been an exciting and successful championships.

The calibre and standard of competition was extremely high throughout the championships, and we are immensely proud of all our swimmers who qualified to compete at the event. Achieving a total of 6 finals and numerous personal best times, our swimmers have been a true credit to themselves and the club, and a HUGE well done is in order!

However, after such a week, you would have thought they were deserving of a rest.. not so for some, who will be competing again in this week’s Asa Summer Nationals!

We wish them and all our swimmers who are joining them, the very best of luck for this week and we’re sure the fantastic results will just keep on coming.
