Day One

The summer championships have kicked off with a strong performance from Chester-le-Street swimmer Alex Mason.

Alex (14) took almost a second off his entry time in 100m fly this morning, to qualify for the Mens 13/14 year old final in 7th position, in a time of 1:01:58.

After matching his performance in tonight’s final, he finished in 10th position. A great result, and great start to the championships.

A big well done from all of us!

We wish Alex and all our swimmers the best of luck for their remaining events.

Updates will be posted throughout the week to report on our swimmers’ progress.

Day 2

Alex Mason (14) continued in fine form in the 200m freestyle event, taking a further second off his personal best, to finish in 16th position in a time of 2:04:73. Team mate Christopher Heppell finished in 22nd position in the same event in the 16 years age group, not quite hitting his personal best time. Well done to both boys on the days’ performances.

Day 3

Lauren Graham (16) started her championships strongly, qualifying for the final of the Women’s 100m Free in 9th position in a time of 59:09, a smidgen outside her personal best of 59:00.   After shaving off time in the final, she moved up a position to finish 8th overall in a new personal best time of 58:74. A fantastic result!  Well done.

Day 4

Alex Mason has continued his fantastic run at the Summer Championships, by qualifying for both the 13/14 years 50m Fly and 100m Free finals in 6th position, in times of 27:81 and 56:12 respectively.

After matching his time in the Mens 13/14 100m Free final Alex held his overall position, to finish in 6th place, in a time of 56:10.

A little later, producing a new personal best time of 27:57 in the 13/14 years 50m fly final, Alex moved up a position to 5th place, less than half a second off bronze medal position!

Another fabulous result for our swimmers!

Final Day

The final day of the championships saw Lauren Graham finish on top form by qualifying for the Women’s 16 years 50m Free final in 9th position. Narrowly missing her PB to qualify in a time of 27:32. After shaving half a second off her time, Lauren moved up 4 places in the final, to finish in 5th position in a time of 26:79. A fantastic result and great end to the Championships.

Team mate Alex Mason, delivered yet another strong performance in the Men’s 50m Free, qualifying for the 13/14 years final in a time of 25:72, in 4th position. After a nailbiting finish, Alex missed bronze medal position by the narrowest of margins, finishing in a time of 25:48, only 0:02 seconds behind bronze medalist Adam Metcalf!

Another fabulous day of swimming and two further fantastic performances from our swimmers, to end what has been an exciting and successful championships.

The calibre and standard of competition was extremely high throughout the championships, and we are immensely proud of all our swimmers who qualified to compete at the event. Achieving a total of 6 finals and numerous personal best times, our swimmers have been a true credit to themselves and the club, and a HUGE well done is in order!

However, after such a week, you would have thought they were deserving of a rest.. not so for some, who will be competing again in this week’s Asa Summer Nationals!

We wish them and all our swimmers who are joining them, the very best of luck for this week and we’re sure the fantastic results will just keep on coming.
