Don’t forget to enter the 2018 Burns Meet. This competition is run jointly by Chester-le-Street ASC and Derwentside ASC so we would love to see as large a turnout as possible. As usual the Burns Meet is being held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield and is a fantastic start to the Long Course season.
The closing date is Saturday 16 December. Please try and get your entries in before this date.
We’re delighted that we’ve been nominated for two awards in the Chester-le-Street and Durham section of the County Durham Sports Awards 2017.
The club as a whole is nominated in the Junior Sports Club of the Year in recognition of providing more than 40 years of opportunities for the young people of Chester-le-Street. Alex Mason is nominated in the Junior Sports Performance of the Year category following his success at the British Summer Championships in July.
The awards ceremony takes place at Durham Town Hall this Friday night, the competition will be very tough, keep an eye on our Twitter feed for updates.
Please be aware that Sunderland Amateur Football Club are playing at home on Saturday 28th October 2017, the first day of the North East Regional Age Group Swimming Championships. This will mean that there is no parking at the Sunderland Aquatics Centre for swimmers, coaches, officials, team staff or spectators. The football kicks off from 15:00 pm and depending on the stewards at the ground on the day, people should be able to be picked up and dropped off outside the aquatic centre up until 12:00 noon however after this time, alternative arrangements will need to be made.
Stadium car parks are closed until 30 minutes after the final whistle. Police and local authority parking restrictions, including permit schemes, are in place on more than 60 streets surrounding the stadium and are heavily enforced.
Football fans travelling to the Stadium of Light which is next to the Sunderland Aquatics Centre are advised to use the Park and Ride facility on Wessington Way (A1231). This is easily accessible from the A19 and is clearly signposted. Buses will pick up from the permanent bus stops on Sunderland Enterprise Park while pick-up points from the stadium are to the north on Kier Hardie Way. Buses run every five minutes before the game from 90 minutes prior to kick-off and regularly after the game until all fans (of which there aren’t very many) have been transported back to their cars.
There is also car parking for the football from two sites at the University of Sunderland – the A183 (Chester Road) and St Peter’s. Both are clearly signposted however we aren’t sure when they are open. If you wish to park here, follow signs for match day parking.
There are a number of car parks within the city centre which are short walk from the Aquatics Centre. There is also limited parking at a number of the metro stations that are within Sunderland and the surrounding areas; the Stadium of Light (SR5 1HX, short walk to the pool), East Boldon (NE36 OLP – short metro ride and walk to the pool) and Fellgate (NE32 4SR – metro ride and walk to the pool).
You can not park directly in front of the Forum, though there is free parking to either side of the building. Do not park in coach bays or outside the car parks because it is likely that parking wardens will be on patrol at some point during the weekend.
