Further to our recent posts regarding Linda Carlo and her 250 mile year long swimming challenge, Linda was able not only to squeeze in a visit to the club during her trip up north at the weekend, but she kicked off the second half of her challenge by swimming her 126th mile in Chester waters!
Originally from Chester-le-Street, swimming teach Linda embarked on her ambitious challenge in July of last year, prompted by her previous weight loss success and inspired by Justin Osmond (of the Osmond family fame) who completed a similar 250 mile challenge (albeit on dry land and over 8 days!).
Linda plans to complete her challenge in August of this year, and is bang on track to do so. The mid way point of Linda’s journey took her to the Angel of the North on Saturday, where she met Joanne Milne, ambassador for the Hearing Fund UK ( the charity Linda is raising funds for), having swam 125 miles.
Not to let an opportunity pass us by, we contacted Linda to come visit our swimmers on Sunday, and being the lovely lady she is, she very kindly agreed to make an unscheduled stop!
What better way to start off the second half of her challenge than with our swimmers, who it seems were fascinated with just how many lengths 250 miles actually was (now how many training sessions would that equate to I wonder!).
All in all, it was great to meet Linda and I’m sure she inspired our swimmers as to what it is to set yourself a goal and then have the commitment and determination to see it through.
We hope to see Linda again later in the year, when an official fundraising event is being planned in support of the Hearing Fund UK, but in the meantime we wish her the very best of luck with the rest of her challenge.
